How do I remove Urine smell/odour from carpet?
  • Good question. It is not an easy process!
  • Fresh Urine (within 24 hours) is acidic. A 'strong AMMONIA' forms as Urine passes through a bacterial & chemical change. This MAY cause permanent staining due to changing the dye structure of the carpet fibre
  • When dry (24-48 hours) URINE leaves a salt alkaline residue. These salt crystals emanate an ammonia ODOUR & are more noticeable in HUMID months, due to urine trapped.
  • Depending on YOUR 'level of Tolerance' we can Neutralise & Remove 70% of KNOWN urine sources & 70% of the associated ODOUR + attempt to lighten or remove the stain.
  • We really need to pre inspect urine affected areas to see the amount of damage:
  • Use a UV light &/or Use our Hydro shark to try to locate unknown urine
  • We discuss your two treatment options:
Treatment 1 - Used in 90% of our urine treatments - 'SURFACE TREATMENT' using a Sub Surface tool - WE do NOT lift the carpet:
1. Assess stains
2. Apply urine treatment (an Enzyme Digester & odour Neutraliser) to counteract (by attacking & digesting & neutralise) organic malodours + break down Alkaline salts to each KNOWN Urine stain.
3. Let dwell for 20 minutes to ensure that the carpet backing & underlay is reached (this is where the heaviest concentration of urine will be)
4. We then saturate known urine areas then allow a further 5 minutes dwell time.
5. Extract 'chemical PLUS urine with excess water' using our Water Claw or Flash Extractor
6. We then apply shampoo to the areas, then steam clean & extract.
7. Apply a slow release chemical to minimise the stain/s.

This method is effective on & will only remove 70% of KNOWN urine sources & odour.
We will TRY to, but we CANNOT guarantee to remove urine STAINS.

Treatment 2: BELOW Surface Treatment (rare, 5 out of 100 urine treatments)

Involves the above 7 step procedure PLUS lifting your carpet FIRST to treat carpet backing & to remove & replace damaged underlay. This is the ONLY way to remove 90% of the odour & to treat KNOWN sources of urine contamination.

REALISTICALLY in heavily urine affected carpet it MAY be cheaper for you to just replace your carpet.
We want what is best for your situation.

Urine treatment cost is the same as water damage treatment (see page) due to the use of LOTS of chemicals required to treat the urine crystals and stains.
